Chapter 6: All-Star Streak

In the afternoon, the captain assigned the evening’s team matches in the group.

At this time, Jessie asked:

"Captain, can I join?"

As soon as she spoke, the group went silent for a moment.

The captain hadn’t replied yet.

Taylor immediately said:

"With your lousy skills, who’d want to team with you? Don’t embarrass our team."

"Yeah, do you know how hard we worked last night to get to second place? If you play a few games, how many points will we lose?"

The captain also said:

"In principle, as long as we have five members, we can play the team match, but I don’t recommend you play, because we’ll lose points."

Jessie ignored Taylor and said:

"I can hire outside help."

Drew sent a mocking emoji:

"Outside help? Our team is fighting for first or second, the top three teams all have national server and youth training level. Those outside casual boosters are useless."

"You really think money can do anything. Too bad your stinky money can’t buy skill, and those who have real skill don’t need your stinky money."

I had just woken up and saw them ganging up on Jessie.

I immediately typed:

"Jess, don’t listen to them. If you want to play the team match, I’ll join you, and I can help you hire reliable outside help."

After all, I knew quite a few top-ranked players from the boosting circle.

Taylor:

"The simp is here again."

"To make a little money, you don’t even care about our team’s honor. If we drop out of the top three and can’t get next month’s sponsorship, who’ll pay for the loss?"

Jessie seemed very interested in the team match.

She privately messaged me:

"How many outside helpers can you hire?"

I replied:

"As long as there are three team members, we can start the team match."

Three minutes later, Jessie sent a game link:

"Okay, everyone’s here. Come on. I’m paying them $300 per game for five games, and I’ll pay you the same."

I excitedly pulled out my calculator and clacked away.

Three hundred per game.

Five games is fifteen hundred.

Holy crap!

I let out a sharp screech, my hands shaking as I replied to the girl:

"Jess, your humble servant is here."

I excitedly clicked the link.

Thinking, even if I break my keyboard, I’ll win with Jess.

If we really can’t win, I’ll make up the lost points myself.

I must make sure Jess has a good experience.

However, when I entered the lobby—

I saw the IDs in slots three, four, and five, and fell silent…

Season 7 national server jungler Blaze.

Former pro top laner Logan.

And our team’s always lone-wolf all-rounder, Ace.

This kind of team.

How could we possibly lose?

For a moment, I just stared at the lobby, the names reading like an All-Star Game roster. In my small-town Ohio life, this was the e-sports equivalent of bumping into LeBron and Steph at a pick-up game.
