Chapter 4: Social Media Revenge
No more Mrs. Nice Girl.
I organized the photos I’d taken at the kindergarten, added some from home, and created an account just like Jessie’s, even splurging a little on promotion. In less than a day, my alt gained over 200,000 followers. I reported Jessie’s account, and though my complaint didn’t go through, her account was suspended for seven days. She couldn’t post, message, or reach her fans.
I used those seven days to post tons of similar videos, each racking up millions of views—after all, my content was real, and I’d hired a professional editor. In less than three days, my alt had more followers than she’d gained in a year.
As expected, once I blew up, her fans started accusing me of copying her. I made a response video, pinned it to the top: “To all my concerned fans, since the main account ‘Mrs. Whitaker’s Rich Wife Life’ ran into some irreversible issues, all videos will now be posted here. Don’t get lost!”
If you mess with me, I’ll take what matters most to you.
I set up a new fan group, and with the wives’ circle working their magic, most of Jessie’s fans followed me—even the old group admin. Her account was now worthless. Even her old business clients started sliding into my DMs, and just two deals paid back all my promo costs. I bet Jessie was screaming into her pillow—but what could she do? She couldn’t exactly accuse me of stealing her own stolen life.
I grabbed Carter’s phone and messaged her: “Ms. James, I warned you, but you wouldn’t listen. Happy now?”
Five minutes later, she blocked me.
A week later, I transferred my son to a new school. When I went to the old kindergarten to handle paperwork, I found out Ms. James had been fired. Turns out the video of Grace’s mom and me confronting her had made it into the school’s parent group, sparking outrage. That led to complaints about her poor teaching and bad temper. The school’s management took it seriously, and she was out.
I was a little surprised, then had a thought and quickly called Carter. “Was that kindergarten video your doing?” I asked. He was silent for a while, then finally answered, “Yeah.”
“Did you know what Jessie was up to all along?”
“Yes.”
“Was Grace’s mom your idea too?”
“Uh-huh.”
I burst out laughing. “You jerk! Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“I wanted to handle it myself…” Suddenly, he went quiet, but I heard his voice nearby. I turned to see Carter walking over from behind the car, grinning like an idiot, phone in hand. I faked a pout and turned away, but he hugged me from behind, kissed my neck, and said, “I wanted to handle it myself, but then I realized being spoiled by my wife feels pretty great.”
Carter let go, looked at me, all serious now. “Savannah, I always thought I could protect you. But after the IPO and now this, I realized I’m not as strong as I thought.”
I nodded, letting the moment hang in the air.
He continued, “You’re stronger than I imagined.”
“Of course. My family’s always been that way—my parents stood by each other through everything. I’m not some delicate little flower.”
Carter hugged me again, this time resting his head against my shoulder, like he needed to soak up my strength.
