Chapter 2: A New Name, A New Game

I stood in front of the mirror, sizing up my reflection.

Just like every other time, I was still drop-dead gorgeous.

Long legs. Trim waist. That perfect swan neck. A delicate, palm-sized face. Bright eyes, white teeth, and features so soft and inviting I’d probably fall for myself, too.

So why does Caleb Foster have absolutely zero interest?

His cold words from my last life played on a loop in my mind:

"Natalie, stop chasing. Even if you turned to ashes, I’d still recognize you.

Let me tell you, even if I jumped off here, I still wouldn’t be with you."

His words haunted me—no matter what face I wore, he always saw right through me.

That was the end of my fifth attempt. Three days later, I died in a car accident. I still flinch at the screech of tires, and the smell of hospital antiseptic makes my skin crawl.

When I opened my eyes again, I’d become... Aubrey Lane.

That’s right—Aubrey Lane, twenty-three, fresh out of college, working some corporate nine-to-five.

This time, the sunlight slicing through the blinds felt almost accusatory. I rubbed my temples, fighting the familiar, dull headache that always came after a system reset, and tried to imagine what kind of woman Aubrey Lane was supposed to be—besides, apparently, pretty enough to cause a pile-up on Main Street.
