Chapter 1: How Ordinary Became Dangerous

I am an ability user. My power? I fit change just one letter for the description of anybody’s ability.

At first, nobody send me for street—na so-so side-eye and shoulder-high from people wey get even small-small powers. Dem call me 'ordinary man', dey waka pass me like say breeze blow leaf. I just dey blend into crowd, dey manage my life, dey reason my own—until one night, everything change—like NEPA take light for whole street.

That’s the night dem give me new name: Demon King of World Destruction. Sharp-sharp, dem carry me lock under the strongest ability user bureau: Seventh Bureau.

Picture am—special meeting, all the big ability users gather, old and new. Dem march me go one underground prison, deep like the bottom of River Niger, lock me inside cell wey even cockroach dey fear to enter. That place get one kind heavy smell—like damp cement and old socks. Darkness dey everywhere, only small bulb dey struggle for life. E no easy, my brother.

Ten years pass. Then, two fresh officers from Seventh Bureau land for my cell one morning. Dem say dem wan hear my own version—how I turn Demon King.
