Chapter 10: Scandal

Without Rachel dragging me down, my grades improved fast. I finished homework before dinner, aced quizzes without even trying.

After the SAT physical, a piece of news exploded across the halls. Whispers swirled, people huddled in corners, texting under their desks.

Everyone was gossiping.

"Did you hear? Rachel was found to be pregnant during the physical."

"She looks so pure and aloof, but she’s already Jason’s girl, hahaha."

My hands went clammy as the whispers swirled around me. Even the janitor paused to listen.

Just then, the class president rushed in, out of breath. "Eric, the homeroom teacher wants to see you in the office."

I had no idea why. My stomach dropped anyway.

Someone smirked, "No way, even you’re involved? You look so proper, but you’re not, are you?"

I frowned. "Watch your mouth."

He just laughed. "What, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. She’s the golden girl, after all. You really hit the jackpot."

I ignored him and went to the office. The tile floor felt slick beneath my shoes.

Just as I stepped out, I saw Rachel’s father storming toward me, face twisted with rage.

I instinctively greeted him, but he kicked me to the ground.

"Eric, you son of a bitch."

The taste of blood filled my mouth. Above me, the office lights buzzed, and someone started yelling for the principal. This was just the beginning.
