Chapter 4: Sweetheart Switcheroo
The whole morning was full of general courses.
I doodled in my spiral notebook, zoned out while the professor droned on about macroeconomics. Bored, I decided to test if Grandma was still playing on her phone.
“Did you miss me?”
Sent.
“Missed you.”
“Missed sweetheart.”
I suddenly remembered—I always told Grandma I’d take her to the hot springs for her health, but never found the time.
But summer break is coming up.
“When summer break starts, let’s go to the hot springs. I’ve even picked out my swim trunks.”
I sent the swim trunks link to Grandma. “How’s my taste? Not bad, right?”
Grandma suddenly didn’t reply.
She used to say young people should wear bright colors.
Natalie, sitting two rows ahead, suddenly stiffened and glanced back at me with a weird look.
She seemed to be biting her lip, totally out of character for her usual icy demeanor.
Seriously, senior, is this necessary?
Just because I wore mismatched sneakers, do you have to keep staring at me?
Or is it because I deleted her and now she’s holding a grudge?
While I was stressing, Grandma finally replied.
“Okay.”
“It’s a deal.”
After class, Natalie’s deskmate suddenly exclaimed, “Why are your ears so red? Are you running a fever?”
I stifled a laugh, but Natalie shot her a look that could freeze lava. The rest of us just exchanged glances, silently promising not to tease her. At least, not yet.
