Chapter 6: The Candle’s Temptation

"Not feeling well? Why aren’t you asleep yet?"

The half-closed bedroom door suddenly opened.

Rachel came back from her business trip unusually early this time, and hadn’t even taken off her trench coat after getting home.

She tossed her car keys on the entryway table, boots still dusted with snow from the driveway. She looked tired, but her eyes softened when she saw me sprawled on the couch.

Seeing I was okay, she slowly started removing her watch and scarf.

Rachel’s fingers are long and slender, her palms broad, nails neatly trimmed.

The dark red silk scarf slipped from her cool, slender neck, exuding an indescribable sense of restraint:

The house filled with the faint scent of her perfume and winter air, a blend that was uniquely Rachel.

"Alex, I brought back the scented candle for you."

She handed me a crisp shopping bag, her hand brushing mine for just a second longer than necessary.

[Main guy, you’re confused. Stop trying to use the candle to win back Melissa. That toxic girl will really turn you over to the cops. Spare a thought for your aunt. She’s already mad with jealousy, she can’t hold on much longer.]

[Two must-haves for male leads in female-dominated novels: love-brained and a simp. Alex is probably thinking of groveling to get the female lead back. But if I remember right, after they reconcile this time, the aunt goes full dark... Hehehe, looking forward to three days and nights.]

Seeing the words "go dark," my heart involuntarily skipped a beat.
